‘Spotlite’ is the final single of the year from Canadian duo Born At Midnite, made up of visual artist and Alpen Glow-songwriter Amery Sandford and TOPS guitarist, songwriter and producer Davie Carriere. Their music is a playful take on electronic pop, with a striking surrealism providing a shimmering thread throughout. ‘Spotlite’ shows off their unique sound, with warm textures and groovy percussion carrying distant, heavily treated vocal hooks through a lens of what they describe as “product placement punk”. Their extemporaneous approach to songwriting is both groundbreaking and familiar, and can be explored on last year’s EP, Alternity. -Dan Peeke
